RAPID CITY, S.D. — Many things inevitably change as a person grows older, and not all of them are easy to adjust to.
It is a natural part of life to see some form of double chin as a person ages. The culprit of this common change is a buildup of fat between the chin and neck, but there is a shockingly easy solution to get rid of that — Kybella.
Nic Yost, a nurse practitioner who owns and operates Beautymed in Rapid City, has seen firsthand how this treatment changes a person’s appearance. More importantly, she has seen how Kybella’s results change a person’s outlook and self-confidence.
“For people who have never had a jawline, who have always had a double chin, it’s life-changing. It’s actually what put me into aesthetics, personally. I had such a severe double chin, and [Kybella] completely changed my self-esteem.”
The Kybella treatment is a series of injections that is made directly into the fat deposit causing a double chin. A patient will usually experience some swelling and bruising following the injections as the fat cells break down. The permanent effect of Kybella comes from the fact that it permanently destroys fat cells. Yost herself had her Kybella injections three years ago, and has enjoyed a defined jawline ever since.
Sometimes more than one treatment will be needed to see desired results. Yost discusses each patient’s goals and keeps track of their recovery, waiting between 90 to 120 days before scheduling another appointment.
Kybella is an FDA approved injection that is completely customizable to each patient’s needs. While the FDA has approved it to be used as an injection under the chin, Yost is also able to inject into other areas of the body. These “off-label” treatments can be used to get rid of fat cells in other small problem areas – one of the most common alternate injections is made to remove bra fat. Yost can also use Kybella to remove fat from the lower parts of a person’s face, and can pair the treatment with Botox to actually thin the face.
Both men and women can enjoy the benefits of Kybella, and Yost has a 50/50 split on male and female patients that have signed up for treatment.
Time and again Yost has seen the difference Kybella has not just on her patients’ appearance, but on their outlook on life.
“To give someone a jawline really does boost the way they feel about themselves and how they look. My favorite thing is people who have never had a jawline, and then to give them one is just exciting.”
